Last week, Sturgill Simpson announced a new album, titled Passage Du Desir, and a tour under a new name, Johnny Blue Skies.
While promoting The Ballad of Dood & Juanita back in 2021, Sturgill Simpson referenced that he wanted to release only five albums of the original material. In a conversation with Rolling Stone that same year, Sturgill mentioned that he was done making albums under his own name, thus the new name Johnny Blue Skies.
The new album, titled Passage Du Desir, comes out on July 12 via Sturgill’s own High Top Mountain Records. Produced by David Ferguson and recorded at Nashville’s Clement House Recording Studio and London’s Abbey Road Studios, the album features eight songs.
The “An Evening with Sturgill Simpson Featuring Very Special Guest Johnny Blue Skies,” a 28-date run billed as “Why Not” tour commences in September with support from Lord Huron.
